Xtreme.ie

Yesterday we went to Xtreme in Dublin. When we arrived we were put into different groups.
Our group first had to go and put on the safety harnesses and helmets. First we went to climb a wall.
Next we went up stairs to the middle course. We had to be hooked in to some ropes and walk around through all the obstacles. I didn't do it because I am scared of heights. When you were looking up from the ground at the obstacles it looked fun and it also looked easy, but when we got upstairs it looked really scary. After that we went up some more stairs and there was a zip line, but our group didn't get to go on it. Instead we got to go were we were hooked into a rope and we had to jump and we would be falling straight down but before you landed the rope slowed you down so you could land safely. I also didn't go on it because it looked terrifying.

We had to take all of our safety harness off and we went to do some archery. Afterwards we all went to liffey valley then back to school.

Retreat

Maynooth College

Yesterday we had our retreat. We went to Maynooth College. When we arrived we had to all sit in a circle. All the three teachers introduced themselves first.

The first exercise that we did was, we had to link our arms together while sitting in a circle. There were four girls in the middle of the circle and they had to go around and pull people out of the circle and we had to hold on as long as we could. If you got pulled out you had to get up and do the same thing. We had to do this until only two people were left linking which meant that they were the strongest link.

We played another game which was: you were in a life boat and had to get into groups of the number that was called out and if your group had too many people or not enough it meant your boat sank and you were out of the game.

Afterwards we had a 10 minute break. When we got back inside we had to get into groups of 10. Each group had to pick one card and on each card it said a topic that the group had to discuss about. My groups topic was ' a) do you think that 16/17 year old's should be able to do what they want? b) If you were a parent of a 16/17 year old would you allow them to do what they want '  Later we got to discuss these topics with the whole Ty group. We had our lunch and after lunch when we came back in, we finished discussing all the topics. Then we had a few minutes to reflect on ourselves and the day was over.

Overall I really enjoyed myself at this retreat.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop

All Ty's are doing Hip Hop during our PE classes. We are learning a choreography for our Ty night. I find that Hip Hop is really fun. Some of the dance moves were a bit hard to do but after practicing a couple of times it gets easier. We have to practice our dance moves at home so we would get better and also so we wouldn't forget the choreography.

Leinster Driving Campus

On Monday we went to the Leinster Driving Camp. We had a lot of fun. We got split into two groups. One group had to go inside and do the mock theory test and after that they had to go outside and try to do a task while having on glasses that simulated of what you see when you are drunk.
Leinster Driving Campus
My group got to go driving first. We had to split up into groups of three or four and stand beside a car there were four cars in total. First we were explained of what the pedals do and how the clutch works. We each got two turns of driving. Everyone did really well. When we were done we had a short break and then we swapped with the other group. The other group went driving and my group went to do the theory test. The Instructor said that if anyone gets 40/40 questions right he will get a free lesson for that group, no one got all the questions right. When we were done with the theory test we went into a shelter outside and there were two cones on the floor. We each had a turn and had to put on the glasses and pick one of the cones up and place it on top of the other one, after we did that we had to give high five to the instructor. When it was my turned I put on the glasses and the instructor said to turn around and don't look, so I did. When I turned around one of the cones was gone I couldn't see anything through the glasses and I couldn't see the cone everyone started saying to look up and it took me awhile to find the cone, but the cone was placed on the ceiling and first when I went to grab it I grabbed the bar that went along the ceiling. When I got the cone I had to place it on top of the other cone I found that was hard to do, I kept missing the cone but eventually I got it.

Everyone had so much fun at the Leinster Driving Campus I would recommend this activity to the next Transition Years.

Thursday, 5 February 2015

On the 8th of January we went to the Young Scientist. There was a lot of really good projects. There was also the RTE radio station and there was also camera men walking around with big cameras. There were two presenters that a lot of people started chasing when they were leaving. The new boy band Hometown also performed at two tube. Me and my friend were really close to the front so we decided to leave early because we didn't know the band and people kept pushing and we ended up being squished in there.

All Ty's have been working on their english plays. Each group had to write their own script. Last Tuesday we went to Mullingar to perform our plays. I was in charge of doing the lighting and the sound effects with another girl in my class. Our play was called Schizophrenia. At the very back of the theater there was a small room that had all the equipment for the sound and lighting and there was a man in-charge. We had to go and explain what kind of lighting we wanted and when but we got to do the sound ourselves he just showed us where the volume was. We had a gunshot at the end of our play and because we have never used the equipment before it was hard to determine how loud the sound was going to be. We accidentally turned the volume on loud and the gunshot came out really loud and we frightened the audience. It was fun watching people from the other schools perform. We also got to go to McDonald's for lunch.

This week was the last week of Zumba. I really liked zumba and it was really fun, we also got to miss two classes.

Carton House

This week on Tuesday all the TYs went to Carton House for the Vanishing Art exhibition. It was really fun and there was some really great art. There was a rugby team training there in the gym and nearly all the Tys were waiting outside for them to come out. Some people got a picture with them. There was also a really cute horse there and I got to go up to him and pet him. We didn't get to see all the art so me and my friends ran quickly to look at the rest of the sculptures because we had a worksheet to fill in. It was time to go to the bus so we tried to find the fastest way to get there but we couldn't so we ran back and we were nearly late for the bus.
